UNSC in Halo - how ruthless?
After all, we know they kidnapped children, leaving clones to die with the distraught parents, to be super-soldiers for them, and a good amount died.
So that suggests they dont care about cost if its beneficial for them and the 'cause'.
I'm just wondering because i'm making a fancomic; a crossover with Metroid.
Chief and Samus fight eachother for a while after Samus drops into their universe in the back of Chief's Warthog. Long story short, they end up working together to fight off some Covenant forces.
Thing is, i feel they (Chief is travelling with Samus to diffrent worlds) didn't spend as long in the Halo world as they should have, there is still more to explore than a little scrap between Samus and Chief.
An intresting idea i had was; how would the UNSC forces react to Samus? Personally i think her suit (which is hundreds, if not out of their imaginable reach, years ahead of their tech) would be very... appealing to them.
Would they try to take her suit from her? Forcefully? After all she wouldnt give it up. That would lead to a very intresting battle between Samus and and army. xD
And who would Chief side with...? After all, at this point he and Samus will have been a heroic team for months, they will both know eachother well and formed a bond. Plus Chief is a heroic character, would he do something he knows to be wrong because the UNSC told him to? He's a good soldier too, after all.
I'd just like the opinion of people more versed in Halo lore.
I could also even have Cortana have been carefully hacking Samus' armour, and have the UNSC seize her suit while she goes covert to try and get back in her zero-suit.
Thing is, i honestly dont know where Chief fits into all this.

While a good idea, and something quite original, you do have to take note of fact, which I am sure is why you posted here, to get facts.
So I'l begin with the first bits.
It wasn't the UNSC that kidnapped the children and left clones behind. It was...ONI, the top secret branch that doesn't exist, along with their ship.
John, or master chief as he is commonly known as, was trained since the age of 6 to be a soldier, nothing more nothing less. His bond with Samus would be mutual at best.
Also, during his "augmentation" he was made un-sterile (forgot the word) so he can't have any kids, and he wouldn't think of such things any way, he is in a sence, too good to get the woman. Something one of the developers said.
To help with how he would respond. If your going with Halo's story, Master chief (also known as Spartan 117) hd gone into Cryo(sp?) with Cortana watching over him in part of a ship. This would be A prime space for your story to start or for Samus to meet John, whom would have been woken by Cortana at the discovery of an anomoly (AKA Samus) Thus Samus and John would have a...difficult meeting and their adventures wiould be bumpy at best, or rather, they would go together quite well but wouldn't mix all that great, kind of like oil and vinager(sp?). As for the military...depending on when Samus and Chief Meets, they would likely try to get Samus and recover Chief, in the end, it would be a three to four sided conflict. Samus and Chief wouldn't really help the other nor would they help their enemies. Because of Johns augmentations and various other aspects of his life, he would be A reason for the continued mutual feeling between the two. Samus would also have a few reasons (or could very well by one) for the mutual feeling.
I hope this helps you with your story. There is much to tell, so feel free to PM sometime if you would want more input from me. Or you can just post here to get more from others.

Just thought I'd point out to falar, that the word is sterile. If a person's sterile, they cannot reproduce.
It sounds like a good story, and a very original idea. But, it poses the question of what they (UNSC) would do with Samus' armour. I think that would depend on who gave who the information. If you've read the Halo books, you see Sgt. Johnson is immune to the Flood because he has some rare disease.
And, before Halsey left on her secret mission, she gave John (Spartan 117) two infomation crystals. One contained a full report on Sgt. Johnson, and Halsey claimed that one would probably cause Sgt. Johnson's death as UNSC would see it as worth while to dissect him in the slight possibility that they could give other soldiers the same immunity. The other, said it was an anomoly, and would (according to Halsey) spare Johnson's life.
We know which one John gave the Lt.

I think the reason that johnson is immune to teh flood is because he was exposed to to much plasma, he refused to take treachment for it, making him some how immune to the flood, lucky him.

for starters, that story idea was already made in the video haloid prime (halo vs metroid prime, look it up on youtube...not my video, but thought i ought to bring it to your attention) but otherwise sounds like a good idea.

Ummm I think the idea in haloid was much shallower than this.
Well I'm not exactly sure Chief and Samus WOULD form any kind of bond other than a small acquaintance. Chief definitely wouldn't go off on adventures with her just because he could, no he would stick around with the UNSC.
HOWEVER: If you positioned the story just after Halo 3's ending (after the credits) then you could make them meet with Samus finding the chief and them striking a deal to take him back to earth. During their travels of course chief's only chance would be to stick with Samus so he would likely get closer to her. This leads to your point with the UNSC trying to take Samus' armor when they get home, Chief would owe Samus for guiding him home. Likely Chief would be the one sent to take Samus down seeing as the marines clearly arent strong enough.
If you haven't seen the secret ending to Halo 3 I apologize, but this information is given in the hopes of a good story!

Yes, a few days after I posted I realized I said sterile and ment Fertile. No wonder I couldn't remember the word!
Which book was it that Halsey gave John the information crystals?
I don't seem to quite remember that bit.
